In a spirited and tenacious display the Baggies corrected the heartbreak from last season's grand final to beat Taylors Lake 9.8 (62) to 2.5 (29).
Swifts coach Corey Fox said he felt overwhelming relief once the siren rang.
"It was a tough game, we started off slow and to the boys credit they were able to claw themselves back into the game," he said.
"Even though we had a small lead at three-quarter time I knew it wouldn't be enough.
"I breathed easier when we kicked the first goal in the last, and then the second."
Swifts' Hamish Smith was named best on ground. Fox said he played a fantastic game.
"I didn't want to name my best players," he said.
"It was a real team effort. We had great leadership from our older boys and even contributed in some way.
"From the players, to the supporters - it's great to get the win for everyone involved."
