From the opening siren both sides looked up for the contest but the battle-hardened Harrow-Balmoral held firm and drew away to a 15.8 (98) to 5.11 (41) win.

"It's just elation. It's been about four years in the making this. We've had a couple of close calls in the past and this certainly tops it off," he said.

"I'm super excited with the boys. They played an absolutely magnificent game."

Natimuk United made the most of its first reserves grand final appearance as an amalgamated club and took the game on early.

The Rams moved the ball in the middle of the park, but the experience of the Southern Roos saw them end the first half with an eight-point lead.

"Early on it was really tight and really close. They threw everything at us. Probably in the third quarter we started to get the ascendacy and really capitalised on it," Neumann said.

"We really got that roll on and it paid dividends. Being able to run over the top of the ground, a little bit of fitness helped us."

Any Harrow-Balmoral player could have been in with a chance of claiming the best on ground award, but the honour went to Lawrence Lemming.

"It was a huge team effort. Lawrence Lemming was fantastic. Matt Mutch got us off to go a good start in the middle. Both Kellys (Lachlan and Bowes) were great. But it really was just one big team effort," Neumann said.

Neumann said it was nice to lift the cup after years of heartbreak.

"We've come close. We finished on top the past four years but haven't made it," he said.

"To win it this year it really tops it off."
