GWMWater managing director Mark Williams hopes his staff can help more people experiencing family violence.
The organisation has achieved White Ribbon workplace accreditation following a year-long campaign.
The non-profit White Ribbon Foundation aims to end and prevent men's violence against women. Its accreditation program helps organisations adapt their culture, policies and procedures.
Mr Williams said as a result of the program, employees had greater awareness into what they could do when family violence manifested in their lines of work.
"We did a whole training program to the point where we had domestic violence advocate Simone O'Brien come and address the staff," he said.
"The training was around not only dealing with staff but with customers - to identify and deal with issues to the extent that they may arise. As part of the program, you are given cues by which to identify family violence such as financial hardship. You're also given tools to effectively drill down and refer people on."
Mr Williams said the organisation had a hardship policy by which it could support people in this situation through concessions on their water bills and utility relief grants.
"Apart from that, we can put people's experiences into a referral framework for the appropriate agencies that deal with these matters," he said.
"I like to think we already had a culture of respect at GWMWater. Certainly we have a significant female workforce and we're aiming to get a few more into our blue collar workforce."
A GWMWater spokeswoman said the water corporation was the second of its kind in Victoria to achieve the three-year accreditation.
