Players and supporters, alike, were reduced to tears as the final siren delivered Minyip-Murtoa its first Wimmera Football League senior premiership since 1998.
It wasn't pretty, and at times the flag looked out of reach, but the Burras rebounded with the spirit that had got them to that point.
The Southern Mallee Giants weren't going to be easy beats, and the game had the making of a classic.
The Giants threw everything at the ball and had the Burras locked in for large passages of the game.
But, in the end, the class of the Burras shone through and with a blistering final quarter secured a historic 9.14 (68) to 6.7 (43) win.
The Giants afternoon didn't get off to a great start, with the banner tearing as it was unveiled.
It didn't bother the Giants who started at a furious clip, but they were left stunned when Brayden Ison kicked the first goal of the game to give the Burras an early lead.
The Giants had plenty of chances to bag a couple of majors with set shots from straight in front, but they were taken wide by a wind that reared its head at random times during the game.
The Burras led by 11 points at the end of the first quarter.
It was a different Giants side that took to the field for the second term.
The Giants kicked four goals on the bounce, having shut the Burras down in the middle of the park.
With the free-running McIntyre brothers limited, the Burras were forced to kick long from the back, much to the joy of the Giants defenders who claimed intercept marks with ease.
The Giants threatened to go into the main break with a big lead, but a Burras' goal on the siren cut the deficit to only 9 points.
The third quarter started with a downpour, and the two sides traded early blows.
As the rain cleared, Burras recruit Brad Inglis kicked a big goal.
After shanking a shot from 10 metres only minutes earlier, the gun forward claimed a strong chest mark before turning to kick the major and wheel out the almighty fist pump, to boot.
The Burras entered the final term with a 12-point lead and didn't waver.
With numbers behind the ball and the Giants spent, the Burras faithful dared to dream early about the joy that was to come.
