Callan Inkster-Delaney, 20, of Horsham, faced Ararat Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Police prosecutor Acting Sergeant David Cosgriff of Ararat said Mr Inkster-Delaney appeared via video link from Horsham. He did not apply for bail.
Police allege Mr Inkster-Delaney broke into a McCombe Court property on Friday morning, stole items including a firearm, and stabbed a man with a pair of scissors after neighbours tried to intervene.
"There are 25 charges in total - including aggravated burglary, theft of a firearm and intentionally causing serious injury," he said.
Acting Sergeant Cosgriff said Mr Inkster-Delaney had been remanded in custody to appear at Horsham Magistrates' Court for a committal mention on December 11.
Horsham real estate agent Wes Davidson confirmed to the Mail-Times he was stabbed during the altercation.
Mr Davidson, 52, said he spent two nights in Horsham's Wimmera Base Hospital and needed 18 stitches.
"I expect to make a full recovery in a few weeks," he said.
Mr Davidson could not elaborate on the matter further while it is before the court.
