Despite a "disappointing" elimination final exit in his first season at the helm, Batson said there were plenty of positives to take from 2019.
"There were some promising signs ... especially from some of the young locals, there was some really good development," Batson said.
"I think most of the locals - actually almost all of the playing list full stop - should be right to go around again, which is great."
The Storm had their depth tested toward the end of the season, with several injuries prior to their elimination final against Natimuk United.
The swathe of injuries led to 600-gamer Steven Murphy getting a call up from the reserves for just his third game of senior football since 2015.
Batson said depth was something the club were determined to address during the off-season.
"I think the year before when our twos were up and about, that put the pressure on the ones and we had blokes knocking on the door to play seniors," Batson said.
"Hopefully this year we can not just improve the top end, but also get another 10 or so blokes through the door to give us that pressure and the depth to cover injuries.
"We're just trying to top up and fill a few holes."
Batson said he had enjoyed his first season as a head coach.
"I had four years as an assistant coach, and the club and the playing group really made it easy for me, so it was an enjoyable year," Batson said.
