The six-foot-five utility played his junior football at Harrow-Balmoral, before stints playing football in Geelong and for the Stawell Warriors in the Wimmera Football League.
Harrow-Balmoral coach Nick Pekin said Beaton was a handy acquisition.
"He's another tall and another local bloke, which is great," Pekin said.
"It's been a while in the making, we've been chasing him every year for the last few years.
"He's got a bit of experience and he's keen to pass it onto the younger generation."
Pekin also confirmed the departure of premiership player Angus Halliday and 2018 premiership player Todd Lawrence, while small-forward Ed Ferguson was weighing up retirement.
Pekin said there were a handful of exciting up-and-coming youngsters ready to step into the senior side in 2019.
"We've got Sam McDonald, Mitch Grant, Harry Robertson, Tyler Hateley coming through the juniors, so we're looking to blood those junior kids next season," Pekin said.
