In "A" grade ladder leaders Shados Inala, despite a mid-game slump, recovered to defeat Heidelberg in five sets to book their spot in Wednesday's grand final. Shados Inala appeared to be cruising at two sets to love up, but Heidelberg, through Shaun Bray and Tim Popple, were able to break the set wide open with some pressure serving in the third set. It was a similar tale in the fourth with both able to identify a weakness in the Shados Inala passing row, and scored many points to send the game into a deciding set. But Shados Inala steeled themselves and despite a late rally from Heidelberg, proved too good, winning 15-11 in the fifth set.
In the first semi final, Phantoms proved too strong for Murtoa Lizards winning in four sets. Captain Nathan Berry set his line up strategically to stop Murtoa's big hitters Cleo Baker and Will Saligari. Phantoms will now meet Heidelberg in the preliminary final on Monday.
In "B" grade top team Von Steiger Bloods pulled out all stops to defeat Phantom Masters in a five set marathon, to take the direct route to the grand final. The experienced duo of Blair Avery and Leigh Creasey started to exert an influence, and they were well supported.
In the first semi final Von Steiger Shadows continued their hot form easily accounting for Waterhammers in straight sets. Mark Block was a huge presence on the net, hitting and blocking plenty of winners and was well supported by the clever Rod Kirkwood.
Von Steiger Bloods have won six game in a row and are playing well as a team. They will now meet Phantom Masters in the preliminary final on Monday night.
In "C" grade Von Steiger Boomers were victorious in the second semi final and await the winner of Slutheran and Murtoa Railway in the preliminary final.
In the juniors top team Raiders Black had to dig deep to beat Murtoa Geckos in five sets. They await the result of the preliminary final between Murtoa Geckos and Phantoms to see who their next opponent will be.
