In the Under 12 competition Saints Black took on Jung Yellow and in a much improved effort with the bat this week Black lost only four wickets. Thomas Risson won the toss and elected to bowl. Every bowler did well with Thomas Risson 2-5 and Chad Mannes 2-13 the pick.
On the batting front a sparkling 18 from Jett King and a steady eight from Riley O'Loughlin got the innings off to a good start. Thomas chipped in with 25 but Zack Martin spanked a feisty 34 with seven fours while Chad Mannes and Jared Ferguson scored 14 each. The coach's decision to ask Zack Stephens to play for Jung had him nervous as Zack handled the familiar bowling comfortably.
Score: Saints 159, Jung Yellow 94
UNDER 14
In the derby at Coughlin Park it was Horsham Saints Black who got the chocolates against Horsham Saints Red.
In a high anticipated match Saints Black batted first and Hugh Dougherty made an impression as he wielded the willow finding the boundary several times before retiring. After returning later in the innings he finished on 30 not out.
Zavier Ezard provided great support making nine runs while Liam Avery made a solid 15 before retiring. Jack Henry played some great shots before retiring on 18.
Best bowler for Saints Red was Joel Rees with 2/12 and others to bowl well were Tom Luke, Sean McDonald and Ryan Ahern who gathered a wicket each. When Saints Red batted, Brodie Devlin showed his improvement as he batted out his allotted time to finish with 11 not out at the top of the order. Tom Sostheim took a step back from opening the innings, and it was just as well because he held things together with an impressive 18 before retiring. Joel Rees assisted him with 10 runs.
Jack Keddie opened the bowling for Saints Black and returned the impressive figures of 2/3 while Jack Henry, Cody Keddie, Harry Crute and Daniel Bell took a wicket each. Hugh Dougherty behind the stumps took three catches.
UNDER 16
Laharum Bullants and West Wimmera Warriors faced off at Nhill with both teams looking for their first win of the season.
The Bullants batted first and were in early trouble when Xavier Bone struck. Patient batting from Jack Snowden and John Sagayno set the innings up to allow some aggressive batting late from Jett Grambeau (17), Nathan Hughes (17) and Deegan Mckenry (13).
For the Warriors, Jayson Brown bowled well taking 2/14 and he also took a good catch.
The Warriors reply mirrored the visitors with an early wicket lost followed by some good, patient batting from Xavier Bone, Tom Harris and Jayson Brown.
Tight bowling from the Bullants prevented the acceleration required to chase the target with the off-spin of Jack Snowden effective.
In the end, Warriors fell 11 runs short of the target enabling Laharum Bullants to chalk up their first win.
