Warracknabeal Police Sergeant Kylie Newell said the incident happened on the corner of the Henty Highway and Kelsall Street, Warracknabeal on Monday, about 5.20pm.
"We believe the ute turned right without seeing the truck. The man driving the ute was aged 83 and was taken to Wimmera Base Hospital with minor injuries," she said.
"The ute hit the truck's fuel tanks which created a diesel spill on the road. The road was blocked off for about two hours while it was cleaned up."
Sergeant Newell said the crash was still under investigation.
