Black Friday is gaining momentum worldwide as the unofficial start to the Christmas shopping season.
A new Wimmera-based campaign - led by the Wimmera Mail-Times, Ararat Advertiser and Stawell Times-News - is encouraging residents to support local businesses, and for local businesses to provide their customers with great deals leading into Christmas.
Sales manager Clint King said more than 50 businesses have backed the campaign, which is in its first year.
"This is a great opportunity for the local community to purchase locally - which keeps your money local, allows the touch-and-feel experience of buying local products and allows you to seek support and advice on the products you buy," Mr King said.
"Some businesses are also keeping their doors open into the evening for the Kannarmaroo festivities, which will give people working during the day a chance to get involved."
Sales in Horsham will align with the city's annual Kannamaroo Festival, which includes carnival rides, music and dance and family friendly activities on Friday evening, as well as other events across the weekend - closing with the city's Carols by Candlelight.
