Six Wimmera-affiliated footballers have nominated for the national draft, which starts on Wednesday night and runs over two days.
Kemp, formerly of the Horsham Demons, was encouraged to nominate by the Dockers after an impressive debut VFL season with Werribee.
"Not long ago I had a testing day with Fremantle, so they advised (I nominate), because you're obviously on the radar," Kemp said.
"There are a lot of blokes that test, but I spoke to Fremantle briefly and they said they were pretty happy with how I tested and they've got late picks in the national draft.
"If I did go, I would be one of their late picks or in the rookie draft."
Fremantle holds picks 66 and 73 late in the draft.
"I'm not expecting much, to be honest. I know I didn't have too bad of a year for my first year (in the VFL), but I could have been better," Kemp said.
Selection in the draft would cap a meteoric rise for the 22-year-old, who only two years ago was plying his trade in the Wimmera league.
"It is pretty surreal, it's happened so quickly. I only moved to Melbourne this year and played 13 VFL games, and now AFL clubs are looking," Kemp said.
"I'll be at work for the rookie draft, trying to listen to it on my phone. Hopefully I'll hear my name called."
Greater Western Victoria Rebels trio Nick Caris, Matty Lloyd and Mitch Martin have also nominated for the draft.
Horsham Saints-based Martin was invited to the RookieMe draft combine last month, after playing two games for Vic Country in the under-18 national championships
It's not just the young guns who have put their name forward.
Minyip-Murtoa product Lachlan Delahunty has nominated for the draft after winning the WAFL's league best and fairest this season.
The 29-year-old - who helped Subiaco to back-to-back premierships - has also found a fan in former AFL player Gary Buckenara.
Buckenara included Delahunty in his analysis of the top 50 draft prospects for the Herald Sun and suggested Collingwood take a punt on the key forward.
Great Western's Tiwi Island recruit Gerard Cunningham has also nominated for the draft.
