Mr Currill is in the running for the "Best Photograph - Character of the Game" category for a photo taken at the 2019 Wimmera Football League grand final.
The picture, taken moments after the final siren, shows Minyip-Murtoa coach John Delahunty embraced by his brother, Chris Delahunty.
Mr Currill said he was pleased to capture some of the emotion surrounding Minyip-Murtoa's breakthrough premiership.
"As a journalist you're trying to find ways to describe situations, but I don't think there's any kind of words that could really portray what the emotion would have been like for John and the Delahunty family," Mr Currill said.
"Everyone on the field was pretty emotional after the final siren, and I think that shows."
The award winners will be announced at a luncheon on Friday, December 6.
"It's all pretty surreal to be honest," Mr Currill said.
"I never would have thought someone like me would be up for a photography award."
