The reigning premiers Coughlin Park 1 went down to Nhill 1 by 42 shots up on the edge of the railway line, and their premiership defence is now well and truly off the track.
With their sibling side Coughlin Park 2 defeating Dimboola 1, the second side has overtaken the first side on the ladder. Nhill 1 took all three rinks comfortably, but Phil Henseleit, Bob Schneider, Roger Brown and Graeme Lynch (s) were the biggest winners with a 26 shot margin.
The team managers didn't even do the right thing and draw the Cramer brothers against each other so I could use the Cramer versus Cramer line.
Coughlin Park 2 has had a terrific last three matches, and took all three rinks against last year's runner up Dimboola, with Paul O'Shannesy and his team the biggest winners by six shots in the 11 shot win.
It's never easy to win up at Kaniva, but Horsham Golf 1 gave their finals chances genuine legitimacy with a seven shot win up at the Tatiara town.
It pushed Kaniva down to the bottom of the ladder and makes it extremely unlikely that Kaniva or either of the two Coughlin Park sides can make finals.
The durable Danny Schmidt was once again the best performing skipper for Golf 1.
Another significant win to Sunnyside 1, reversing their round one defeat by Horsham City 1 to get a 16 shot win across on the City carpet.
An 11 shot win to Bruce Hayes, Bill McFarlane, Nigel Zanker with Kevin Smith skipping and a 10 shot win to Sunnyside on the rink skipped Chris Trotter over Kevin Clynes team got 14 points for Siders and took them to second spot on the ladder.
Some more good matches coming up in round nine. Coughlin Park 2 will get their first taste of the Sunnyside synthetic, Dimboola 1 will welcome Kaniva 1, top team Nhill 1 will head to Haven to take on Golf 1 and City 1 tackle the turf at Coughlin Park.
Round nine of weekend pennant second and third divisions will mark the completion of a full round of matches in the 10 team competitions, and both ladders highlight some interesting and unpredictable results.
In division two we have the two top sides with six wins, then the third and fourth sides with five wins, then two with four wins and so on down to the bottom two who have two wins.
The close match was down on the turf at Coughlin Park, two rinks blew out to 22 and 21 shot margins to either side, but Daryl Giddings, "Rattles" Ryan, Robert Keating and Ray Anderson (s) got up but one over Barry McIntyre and his rink to give the Coughlin Park 3 side a two shot win over Sunnyside 2.
The reigning premiers Coughlin Park 1 went down to Nhill 1 by 42 shots up on the edge of the railway line, and their premiership defence is now well and truly off the track.
Edenhope 1 went up to Goroke to take on their old Kowree cousins and had a big win to reinforce their hold on third spot. Geoff Lowe and his rink battled to a 25 all tie with the Hughie Caldow combination, but a 24 shot win to Trevor Mulraney, and 15 shots to Wayne Caldow on the rinks they skipped saw Edenhope home by 39.
Horsham Golf 2 continue to take all before them, and displaced Horsham City 2 from the four with a 10 shot win. Adam Galpin, Steve Harris, Denis Ballinger and Tim Barber (s) had the biggest margin winning by 16 shots.
In other matches top sIde Sunnyside 3 had a big win at home over Natimuk, and second side Nhill 2 didn't have it all its own way against Dimboola 2.
The closest match of the round in weekend division three was up at Nhill, where bottom side Edenhope 2 took two rinks off third side Nhill, but went down by six shots. The Graham Dunford rink saved the day for Nhill by getting up by16 shots.
Sunnyside 4 did it easy over Coughlin Park 4, Robert Hetherton and Paddy Ross had 17 and 14 shot wins on the rinks they skipped, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so I'll mention Brian Simonds rink of David Shache, George Herd and Stan Walter (s) for a 12-shot win.
Horsham City 4 got a 23-shot win over Golf 3, taking all three rinks to sit in fourth spot, and top team City 3 won against Nhill 4 as would be expected, Nhill's Ken Dodds playing a 23 all tie with Sandra Knight. Michael Tucker and John Lehmann and their rinks stretched the margin out to 37 shots.
Sunnyside 5 took the trip to Kaniva to take on their second side, but couldn't wrest a rink off the home side.
