Mr Ackland has previously been manager at the club for several months in early 2018.
Mr Copley departed in early November after officially taking on the role full-time in August from previous manager Paul Riley.
Horsham Golf Club president Leo Delahunty said Mr Copley had moved on for family reasons.
Mr Delahunty thanked him for his time at the club.
"Steven decided that he needed to go back to Adelaide - he still has some involvement in the club but he's not the manager anymore," Mr Delahunty said.
"We will be running an advert shortly for another manager.
"In the meantime, John has come on board as a part-time acting manger, helping us again for a few days a week until the middle of February."
Mr Ackland said he was happy to chip in, and feels in familiar territory since taking on the role in early November.
"I'm happy to support the club and help them out where need be," Mr Ackland said.
Mr Ackland said there were positive moves being made to ensure the long-term future of the club.
"There's some future planning going on at the moment. Obviously members feedback is really important in that, and that is happening at the moment," he said.
"That's really good, and some strategic planning will conclude soon."
