Taking to the court after a tough nine-point loss at the hands of Geelong United the week before, the hosts quickly found their groove again.
The Hornets' attacking pillars all stood tall, ensuring their side walked away 86-78 winners against the reigning premiers.
Tim Pickert (16 points) and Austin McKenzie (18 points) were quickest out of the blocks for the Hornets, but the side ended the first quarter trailing by six points.
Jeremiah McKenzie (23 points) swung the game in his side's favour and helped the Hornets to a seven-point lead at half-time.
The Lakers fought back, wrestling the lead back late in the third quarter.
The hosts were able to keep pace, however, and prepared for a tense final quarter with a one-point lead in hand.
An immediate Lakers bucket jolted the Hornets back into action.
Tim Pickert's side piled on 11 unanswered points to build an unassailable lead and hand the Lakers their first loss of the season.
The Horsham Lady Hornets didn't fare as well on Saturday night, losing by 22-points against the Mr Gambier Lakers.
High-scoring showings from Faith McKenzie (14 points) and Caitlin Dumesny (12 points) were highlights in the 85-63 loss.
The Hornets return against Stawell on January 5, while the Lady Hornets play Geelong on January 18.
