Every new year brings new things.

Personally, I will embark on a new career, bidding farewell to journalism after 13 years.

This masthead's new leader, based in the Wimmera, will put their own stamp and flavour on the team and the local journalism offering they produce.

They will gain support behind the scenes from leaders and strategists whose expertise lies in ensuring great experiences for print and digital readers continues.

But some things don't change. The reason this masthead exists remains as important as it did more than 100 years ago.
