The male senior constable has been transferred to other duties, having been charged with fail to store longarm in a manner provided and fail to notify police of a change of address within 14 days.
He will appear before a magistrates' court at a later date.
Victoria Police's western region spans most of western Victoria and includes Bendigo, Mildura, Ballarat, Geelong, Warrnambool and Horsham.
