People travelling past Mount Arapiles may need to factor extra travel time into their journeys, as works to upgrade a stretch of the Wimmera Highway have begun. On Tuesday, a state government spokesman said the $1.16 million project will see repairs made to a 2.1-kilometre stretch west of Natimuk. Details about the project on Regional Roads Victoria's website say the works involve removing the existing road surface and replacing it with a newer, smoother and safer surface "ensuring that the highway can continue to function as an important link for freight". It says the works are expected to be completed in March, weather permitting. The spokesman said a further 2.9 kilometres of the Wimmera Highway near Murtoa and Rupanyup are set to undergo rehabilitation works in the coming months.
