Heir has a varied coaching history, having previously coached a North Central interleague side and Wimmera-Mallee junior representative teams.
Heir said she returned to the Demons with family last year, and was excited for the upcoming season.
"I played for the Demons back in the late 1990s, and it has always been home for my husband and I," she said.
"We headed back there midway through last year for my son to play football, and it was a bit of a natural progression for me to get back involved in the netball side of things.
"I'm really excited. It is something that I've always wanted to do. We've got such a great bunch of girls, and some I have coached before with Wimmera-Mallee teams at a junior level."
Heir takes the helm from 2019 co-coaches Amanda Worthy and Mel Scott.
Heir said the side were determined to bounce-back after consecutive grand final defeats, but will have to do so without wing attack Olivia Jones and wing defence Tamika Mentha, who have both left the club.
Mentha has crossed to play alongside her sister at Minyip-Murtoa, while Jones has joined reigning Horsham District league premiers Laharum.
"Pretty much most of the side has stuck together which is really promising," Heir said.
"We're very lucky to have kept Georgia Hiscock and Emma Buwulda, two Hatcher medallists.
"That is fantastic, and they're loyalty to the club is certainly appreciated."
Heir was also hoping to integrate some talented juniors from the 17-and-under side into senior netball.
"We are so lucky to have such great junior coaches like Amanda Worthy, Jodi Bigmore, Penny Manserra and Emma Hopper," Heir said.
"They are great netball minds and they instill such great values in every junior player."
