The under-16 girls fought hard through a difficult group stage before reeling off three consecutive wins to claim the division two title.

The girls led from start to finish against the Bendigo Braves in the grand final, securing victory 39-45. Grace Manserra, Jessie Lakin and Imogen Worthy led the way with more than 10 points each in the final.

Coach Nicole Lakin said it was a fantastic way to finish off the season.

"It was an amazing result - just awesome for Horsham, the junior development program and how hard everybody has been working," she said.

"They showed they are right among the best in the state - we finished in the top 10 in the state which is just terrific."

Lakin said it was reward for effort, after an intense amount of training across the summer.

"They trained hard, sometimes five nights a week, and they did an amazing job bonding and working together," she said.

"Walking away with medals, this is reward for all our hard work."

Meanwhile the under-18 boys hit a roadblock in the semi-final, coming up against eventual tournament winners Bendigo.

The Hornets had comfortably won their previous four games against the likes of Mildura and Geelong by more than 10 points, but the Braves proved too strong in the semis, 43-82.

Hornets duo Austin McKenzie and Sam Breuer led the way, averaging 19 and 17 points respectively, while big-men Matt Brown and Cody Bryan fought hard across the tournament.

Head coach Jon Fitzgerald said he was proud of the team's efforts.

"Finishing top four was an amazing effort," he said.

"Bendigo are a very talented side. We threw a few different tactics at them defensively but unfortunately they shot the lights out.

"Cody Bryan in particular had a really good game guarding Dyson Daniels, who plays for Australia. He did a really good job.

"But Bendigo played some great basketball and were just too good."

It was the final game of junior representative basketball for five top-age boys.

"It's a bit of a sombre moment (after the game). It takes a little while for it to really sink in for those guys," Fitzgerald said.

"Hopefully they all push on and stay involved with basketball in Horsham.

"Getting to know the guys this year, they are outstanding athletes and outstanding young men."
