Collective classes may have been suspended, but it hasn't stopped the Horsham School of Dance getting their students to push the couches back, clear some space in the living room and set up in front of a computer.

Horsham School of Dance instructor Karen Booker ran her first online class using Zoom on Monday evening with a small group of her young students.

She said it was a short, trial class "to work out how we could go forward from there".

The School of Dance normally runs classes from Monday to Saturday with about 150 students.

She said the shutdown had been stressful and they had scrambled to set up online classes.

"I rent premises that I use for the dance school so there's rent, electricity, rates, insurance and licences that still have to be paid," Ms Booker said.

"It's probably going to be a lot of work to set up initially, but if it's what we have to do, that's just what happens.

"It was good to see everyone last night, and they seemed to enjoy it."

Horsham Calisthenics College instructor Kylie Hermans also trialed an online class on Monday night.

"It was really fun for the little girls to jump on and see each other," she said.

"I think it's fantastic for the girls to have some normality in their day-to-day activities with what's going on at the moment.

Ms Hermans oversees five classes, including four competitive groups, and said with competitions suspended, there are a lot of "what ifs" to work through.

"It's been really hard. We've had to put into place all these online services for the girls which is time consuming. I suppose it's really up in the air for us."
