With a necessity to keep the board quota at or above 40 per cent, the association welcomed onto the committee Becky Schmidt.
Schmidt has a long history of involvement with Volleyball Horsham and her enthusiasm and bubbly personality will be a great boost for the association.
It was agreed that by holding the annual general meeting now, the opportunity presents itself to get a committee in place.
They can then start working on those off court tasks that can be done at a time when, normally, everyone is too busy to attend to those tasks.
From a Volleyball Horsham perspective, the committee will be looking at:
- Policies, and ensuring they are up to date
- Updating the association's procedures manual
- Revising the association's budget for the year
- Encouraging association members to do online accreditations for refereeing and coaching
- Updating job descriptions
- Looking at the association's strategic and business plan.
- Investigating innovative ways that volleyball can be played going forward.
This is just a snapshot of what Volleyball Horsham is doing while there is no play due to the coronavirus pandemic.
All clubs and associations could be doing some vital planning, especially for when the time comes that people are able to play again.
When this does happen, it will be all systems go for everyone.
The disappointing news for everyone was the cancellation of the 2020 Country Championships.
Volleyball Horsham rates these championships highly, and for some the idea of a free weekend in June is unheard of.
The last time Volleyball Horsham didn't attend a championship was in 2000.
Also, the news had come through that State League has been suspended until at least May 31, with a decision to be made after that.
The new Volleyball Horsham committee is:
President: David Berry
Vice-president: Vaughn Maroske
Secretary: Shaun Bray
Treasurer: Tim Popple
Committee: Kara Johnson, Delaney Wills, Mercedes Arnott, Becky Schmidt
The new committee will meet over the course of these uncertain times to plan for when volleyball recommences.
The association will keep all members and supporters up to date as information comes to hand as to whether or not it can get the summer season up and running, if at all.
In the meantime, all members are being encouraged to "support our sport."
Those who are in a position to pay their membership are being urged to please do so, as every little bit helps keeping the sport ticking over.
