Horsham mother of two Sharron Keating said Jobe, 12 and Nate, 9, were excited to stay home.
"I think the challenge will be to stay focused for the full day because at home there are so many potential distractions, the puppy being one," she said.
Getting prepared for home study had been stressful at first but Ms Keating said now the family felt calm and ready to learn.
"We're feeling alright now but it was rather stressful at the start when you are trying to get your head around working full time as well as trying to home school your children," she said.
"We spent yesterday setting up the space and logging in and setting up all the portals you need to be logged into for learning.
"They are in different grades and have different learning platforms as well. Once I did all of that I felt a lot better about it and it was a bit of a relief."

Ms Keating said her children will spend three days a week studying from home and two days attending school in person.
"I do have the luxury of working from home a couple of days a week, and then they will be going to school two days a week so that I can go to work," she said.
Ms Keating said she would try and keep things in perspective as the family learned how to work and study together.
"I'm not placing too much expectation of what we will achieve," she said.
"If we can get a bit of structure and a good amount done each day then that will be great.
"At the start I probably placed a lot of expectation on myself and that was a bit daunting, but now in the whole scheme of their education, it's one term and as long as we can keep some structure I'll be happy.
"I am focusing on keeping our relationship good and if that means we don't do as much work as they maybe would at school, so be it.
"As long as we're committed to doing a bit each day and we keep a good relationship, I'll be happy with that."
