The man was killed in a three-vehicle crash at Great Western on April 29.
Police believe a truck carrying multiple vehicles and a ute collided on the Western Highway just after 10pm. A second truck then crashed into the scene.
The driver of the ute, an Ararat man, 29, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck carrying cars, a 50-year-old man from Lalor, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the other truck, an Albion man, 63, was not injured and was exonerated from any wrong-doing.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the crash.
