The council has set aside $150,000 of federal government funding received for COVID-19 relief and applied for $2.2 million of Sports and Rec Grants to get the projects off the ground.

Rupanyup Football Netball Club treasurer and secretary Calinda Hurley said Netball Victoria had advised the club that their current netball courts did not meet state-wide standards.

Mrs Hurley said a wall on one side of the indoor courts was too close to the end of the netball court.

Rather than renovating or altering the existing court, Mrs Hurley said the club was advised to apply for a grant for a completely new multi-purpose netball and tennis court.

"When I met with the shire to get the tennis courts ticked off for a return to training (with easing COVID-19 restrictions), Netball Victoria mentioned that our stadium doesn't meet their codes," she said.

"Netball Vic aren't going to stop us from using the court or anything, but they recommended that we change.

"The shire encouraged us to put in an application and ... rather than upgrading current facilities, they would much rather a new development.

"It would be an absolutely massive positive for the town."

Yarriambiack Shire mayor Graeme Massey said with the 2020 seasons called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a good time for renovations and new infrastructure.

Cr Massey said the projects were ready to be worked on immediately, as soon as the Sports and Recreation grants

"We're pretty lucky at the moment that with the forseeable winter season, there will be no competitive sport at these grounds," he said.

"There seems to be plenty of evidence in those towns that there will be sufficient people using those facilities to warrant the upgrades."
