The Stawell Warriors, Ararat Storm and Timboon Demons withdrew from the junior Western Victoria Female Football League prior to this weekend's opening round.

It forced the league's draw to be revised, and Horsham will not take part in round one of the competition.

The Demons are however still determined to participate later in the season if they are able.

Horsham Demons president Rod Dumesny said the club would continue to do what was advised.

"All the way along our message has been abiding by the guidelines and informing our members of what can and can't be done," he said.

"The girl's football will be the same; if it is right to go, then we can go.

"We're just waiting on advice from the state government and health departments."

The junior girl's side has not resumed training since all Wimmera clubs were advised to stop due to a confirmed case being linked to a club.

The Wimmera's proposed junior football and netball competitions were cancelled shortly after the positive case was found.

Mr Dumesny said the club had been extra diligent in following guidelines and taking precautions.

"I have been to every training session, just to make sure everything was getting done properly," he said.

"Everyone has given us high praise on what we set up and how we've done it."

Junior girls coach Terry Arnel said getting a season going was important to maintain the momentum of girls football.

"Obviously it hasn't got the history of the boy's or the men's competitions in the area, but it has been gaining momentum every year that it's been going," he said.

"So it's quite important to keep it moving forward."

Arnel said the club had upwards of 20 players on the training track prior to the COVID-19 chaos.

"The interest level seems to be remaining there," he said.

"We'll try to do what we can given the restrictions and the practicalities of being able to play."

The league was initially split up into a north and a south region to limit the travel teams undertook, helping minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19 across western Victoria.

Horsham was initially put into the "north" division alongside Stawell, Ararat and the Hamilton Kangaroos - two of which are no longer participating in 2020.

AFL Western District's Mike Farrow said the league was willing to be flexible to allow the Demons to be involved.

"At this current time Horsham Demons are waiting on advice when they can resume training, etc.," he said.

"We have replaced the Timboon Demons matches with Hamilton Kangaroos until Horsham Demons make a final decision and then will look at changes when required."
