Dr Fari - as she likes to be called - moved to the region recently with her partner Dr David Hunchak due to their love of the outdoors and particular fondness with Mt Arapiles.
The couple's Wimmera venture was only meant to last a couple of weeks, as they harboured hopes of moving to Canada before the pandemic thwarted their plans.
The appointment means the Wimmera's dementia patients and those suffering movement disorders can see a Horsham-based neurologist for the first time.
Dr Fari trained at Melbourne's Austin Hospital, where she completed a Fellowship in movement disorders, that was later followed by a Fellowship in cognitive movements at the Eastern Hospital.
"I've only been here a couple of months, and I've just come off maternity leave, so we are still settling in for now," Dr Fari said.
"I also plan to do some work with Ballarat Health Service at their dementia clinic."
COVID-19 UPDATE:
Dr Fari's work in those fields means she can treat patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease and those with cognitive disorders such as various forms of dementia.
She can also provide consultation on any general neurological presentation, including headaches, seizures, stroke and multiple sclerosis.
In what is an extra boost for the Wimmera, Dr Hunchak is a rural generalist with special interests in anaesthesia and Aboriginal health. He works as a GP in the Wimmera Base Hospital's emergency department.
Read Street Medical Centre manager Heather Parker said Dr Fari and Dr Hanchuck's appointments were an example of how the Wimmera community had benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are very lucky to have Dr Fari, and we want the community to take full advantage of her knowledge," Ms Parker said.
