Horsham was predicted to reach a top temperature of 11 degrees on Saturday.

With an icy chill factor, by lunch time, it had only reached 10.9 degrees with an apparently temperature of 3 degrees.

4.2mm of rain had fallen over the past 24 hours with more rain predicted over the coming days.

Snow fall had set in around the Grampians, the Bureau of Meteorology advised snow falling above 700 metres possible.

Gusty winds and possible hail would continue throughout the day with winds decreasing to 25 to 30 km/h in the evening.

Bureau of Meteorology issued a sheep graziers for the region: Sheep graziers are warned that showers and cold southwesterly winds are expected during Saturday and Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts and parts of the East Gippsland forecast district. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
