DRIVING for "outdoor recreation" is allowed, but trips should be kept short and done "as close to home as possible", say the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Wimmera Mail-Times sought clarification from the department after receiving several queries from readers across the weekend.
The DHHS website states that people should only leave home for one of four reasons: essential shopping, work or study, compassionate grounds, or to exercise.
However it also states that people can go for a drive for recreation as long as they do not leave their vehicle.
A DHHS spokesperson told the Mail-Times that non-essential travel should be avoided, but that driving for recreation was allowed.
The spokesperson said that people driving for recreation should limit how far they travel, and how long they travel for.
"Regional Victorians under stage 3 restrictions can drive their car within their area for one of the four reasons, including outdoor recreation," a DHHS spokesperson said.
"Those going for a drive should not travel for long periods of time - activities should be done as close to home as possible.
"Under stage three restrictions, non-essential travel should be avoided.
"Regional Victorians cannot drive to greater Melbourne for recreational purposes."
The website also states to avoid having passengers in the car from other households.
