Sonja Martinali and David Moore started the Facebook page 'Sunflowers for Jake' as a tribute for the 24-year-old, who passed away in a car accident in February.
"When the tragic accident happened this year, I wanted to put something together that would not only honour Jake but maybe financially support his family," Mr Moore said.
"We thought it would be too hard to sell the sunflower seeds so we are just asking people to plant them in honour of his name.

"When people walk past the sunflowers here, they will get a reminder of what a beautiful bloke he was.
"He was a bit like a sunflower too. He was a tall, skinny man and you couldn't help but smile when you were around him."
Mr Moore said Jake's mother, Mandy Duncan, was "overwhelmed" by the Facebook page and community support.
"It made her so happy. We went over to Mandy's place and planted the very first seed in her garden," he said.
"We have also been around to people's places and put the seeds in for them."

Ms Martinali said they have dropped off sunflower seeds all around the region.
"We have made deliveries to Horsham. A lady has reached out to us from Geelong ... and a lady from Brim also asked for seeds," she said.
"Everybody is happy to plant some seeds in memory of Jake. It's really awesome.
"We do have some lovely people that are donating seeds to us as well, so that we have enough to go around for everybody because we don't want anybody to miss out."
Mr Moore said on Monday they made 25 deliveries and completed 35 on Tuesday.
"We have another 40 to do and we are waiting on another bag of seeds," he said.
"There are probably 200 people on the Facebook page that have requested seeds. It is more than we expected.
"I have been growing them for the last two years. Last year I grew a whole heap of sunflowers out the front and some were 13 feet tall. All of the seeds I got from them I kept for this year.
"I can't wait for Spring, really deep into it , when they are up and blooming.
"When they do bloom we are encouraging people to post photos on the Facebook page and use the hashtag #SunflowersForJake."
