Leading Senior Constable Caryleen Hateley said 120 sheep had been stolen from two farms within 30 kilometres from the town, one south and one north.
"We do not have a specific date, but I would say probably in the last four to six weeks is when they happened," she said.
"There are no suspects at this stage. We would ask anyone in Nhill and the surrounding areas to contact police if they have seen any suspicious vehicles or unusual ones towing any sorts of trailers."
Leading Senior Constable estimated the value of the sheep stolen to be between $18,000 and $30,000.
"For other farmers in the area, the message is to be vigilant with checking their stock and report it to police if there is any missing," she said.
"The frequency of these incidents is a bit of an issue, so it is important every incident is reported. That way, we might be able to piece together some similarities or a similar timeframe."
Leading Senior Constable Hateley said people with information could contract Crime Stoppers.
