The words of 'The Blessing' include the priestly blessing God taught his people in Numbers 6:24-26.
In this God pronounces that his desire is to bless people and give his grace and peace.
His desire is for us to know that he shines his face upon us.
The song then goes on to pronounce God's blessing over our families, our children and future generations.
This song and its sentiments are so pertinent at this time because it contrasts so starkly with the negative messages that seem to dominate presently.
It reminds us of the hope God offers us and that we can help extend this hope to others for whom it is not a reality.
It reminds us of the power of blessing others.
We know the pandemic has compounded pressures such as financial stress, strained relationships and fear for what the future holds for family in our community.
Now is the time for God's people to bless others with our finances, through acts of care, with our words and prayers.
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace".
