Pre-race favourite, Royal Performance, ridden by Horsham jockey Dean Yendall, was left to take second place.
Paul Preusker-trained Poet's Landing rounded out the top three.
It was a successful Cup day for the Horsham-based Preusker, who celebrated two winners.
Five-year-old Lowanna Magic took out the second race, before apprentice jockey Tatum Bull rode Lord of Darkness to victory in the fourth race.
MAKING NEWS ACROSS THE WIMMERA:
Smiley Chan-trained Pierro Belle won the $100,000 Melbourne Cup Country Carnival Series heat.
With the win, the five-year-old, and second-place Vungers, trained by Brendon Hearps, booked their place in the final at Flemington on Kennedy Oaks Day and a crack at $500,000 prizemoney.
