Salvation Army captains Tracy and Chris Sutton are asking people to donate presents which will then be gifted to families in need.

The recipients will be able to choose from hundreds of presents to make sure no child goes without a present this year.

Mrs Sutton said it provided a bright spark for families in need.

"It certainly means a lot to the families that are struggling, and who might not have much of a Christmas without it," she said.

"It's a really important thing for a lot of people."

Mrs Sutton said the repercussions of COVID could also mean more people look to the service for support this year.

"We gave out over 1000 toys last year easily, and potentially we could have even more people this year," Mrs Sutton said.

"People might have potentially lost jobs and could be struggling to pay the bills or other things in their lives.

"So we're really hoping people can go to KMart, buy a toy and generously put it under the tree. It all helps, and it all goes to local people who are struggling."

The tree will soon be erected at the Horsham KMart.

Mrs Sutton said anybody who was also looking for assitance this Christmas could call the Horsham Salvation Army on 5382 1770.

Mrs Sutton said the program was not isolated to Horsham, and could help people from right across the Wimmera.

"We have people come from Horsham, Jeparit, St Arnaud, Warracknabeal... it's for the whole region," she said.
