With warm northerly winds, there was no wonder everyone was eager to find out when the cool change would arrive.
The Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Chris Arvier said a high pressure ridge was sitting over the state.
"That's directing some warm northerly air from inland continental Australia and dragging it over Victoria at the moment," he said.
"There is thin high level cloud so it's not really stopping the temperature rising at the surface."
Mr Arvier said a cool change would enter the state, impacting the western half of the state in the afternoon.
"It really is a really hot day before things start to cool down," he said.
"We're looking at about 5-6pm in the western parts of the state.
"It's a very dry change as it comes through and not expecting any rainfall at all."
Mr Arvier said the next significant weather system would be approaching the state over the weekend.
