Thunderstorms on Sunday brought significant rain to some parts of the Wimmera, with Murtoa reportedly recording 22 millimetres.

The rain put a pause on harvest, but farmers across the region said it would not greatly effect what was shaping up as a promising season.

Lubeck farmer and Wimmera VFF representative Graeme Maher said mild conditions and a southerly breeze on Monday meant the downpour would have little effect on his operation.

"Everything is looking really good - we're in a very happy spot agriculturally, right across the region," he said.

"The way things are going, if it stays dry for three weeks we will have had a cracker. The weather so far has been remarkably kind to us."

Kalkee farmer Phil Mills said the 11 to 15 mm recorded at his property was not good for his lentils and hay.

Mr Mills however said that overall, it was still looking like an "excellent" season.

"We've got a lot of hay on the ground ready, so it does downgrade that," he said.

"But I can't complain. We've harvested some lentils and the hay is going pretty well at the moment.

"If we could get no rain until Christmas now, we'd be laughing."

Natimuk farmer Michael Sudholz recorded nine-and-a-half mm at his property.

"I don't think it will have much of an impact - we've just got to hold off on harvesting for a few days," he said.

"We haven't done any harvest yet but it's looking very promising. From what I hear, it has all been A1 around crop quality and yield this year.

"The prices could be better with China shifting in the market, but we'll wear that on the chin."

Green Lake farmer Glen Mibus recorded roughly 9mm across the whole of Sunday.

"It holds us up for a couple of days, but there's not too much damage. Today is nice and clear with a bit of wind," he said.

"Harvest is going along okay, as long as we keep things dry."
