The old Dimboola Shire Hall is undergoing some reconstruction and the riverside extension is now open as a public space.

Residents are being encouraged to use the space to come together as a community as libraries and community hubs are able to open their doors again as COVID-19 restrictions ease.

Hindmarsh Shire Mayor, Ron Ismay, said libraries are more than just books.

"We encourage the community to utilise this space. The Dimboola Library has been designed with the community in mind," he said.

"Not only are libraries places for learning and discovery, but libraries are places to bring people together."

Parental support groups are a key support for new mums, the Dimboola library hosted a meeting of new parents with host Maternal and Child Health Nurse, Judy Harrington.

"I hope that this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship between community groups and their use of the Dimboola Customer Service Centre and Library," Coordinator Library Services, Whitney Kingston said.

Works for a meeting room and public space are being completed at the Old Shire Hall to further this design of a community hub which will be completed in the new year.

Another act of community outreach are some activity packs for young ones in Hindmarsh.All Hindmarsh Libraries have Christmas STEM activity packs for children.

The packs include science, technology, engineering and maths activities. For example, dissolving candy canes and making peppermint oobleck to design Santa's zip line.

Using these public spaces in the library and community hub are free of charge. Contact your library to discuss booking and using these spaces.
