Widespread totals of 30 to 60mm are expected in the warning area during the day, with isolated heavier falls of 80 to 90mm possible. The heaviest falls are more likely to be experienced with thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should if driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.

Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.

Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.

Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.

Stay indoors and away from windows.

If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.

Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.

Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.

EARLIER: Wimmera is currently looking at thunderstorms later this week.

Due to thunderstorms and humid weather, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for the Wimmera area about chances of brown rot.

Stone fruit growers in the Wimmera are advised that rainfall and accompanying high humidity during Thursday and Friday are conducive to a heavy outbreak of brown rot.

After a hot weekend, Victoria's weather settled down for a calm few days, only for gale force winds to hit some areas later this week and incoming thunderstorms.

Horsham has a forecast maximum of 30°C Thursday with thunderstorms in the evening. It will be a humid day. Partly cloudy with a medium chance of showers at night. Winds easterly 15 to 20 km/h tending east to northeasterly 25 to 30 km/h in the morning.

Similar conditions in Edenhope with a top temperature of 30°C, same with Nhill and Warracknabeal but with a top temperature of 31°C.

On Friday there is a very high chance of rain with heavy falls possible and thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon. Winds east to northeasterly 25 to 35 km/h tending northwest to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the evening.

There will be a possible rainfall of 25 to 45mm.

Top temperature forecast on Friday for Horsham, Nhill, Warracknabeal and Edenhope is 27°C.

The weekend looks to be clearing up with both days with a forecast top temperature of 26°C and partly cloudy.
