The design for the murals comes from a logo design competition hosted by the Horsham Youth Council in 2020.

Horsham Youth Council contracted an artist from 90 Degrees Artists for the production of the murals.

Youth Council member Bethany Arnup said the designs have given the centre a new life.

"It's really good because it is going to be there for a while and it means that we have left our mark," she said.

"I think it will be a really nice place to come after school, and place to come and do homework and hang out with friends."

Fellow Youth Council member Scarlett Monday-Terry agreed and said the youth centre provided a voice to Horsham youth.

"I think it's fantastic because we get to have our own say on what youth wants," she said.

"We can talk to our friends and other students abut what we really want and bring it to council. I think we all hope that everyone finds a way to use it in more than one way."

Horsham City Council Youth Services Planning and Engagement Officer Annie Mintern said the artist will work with participating young people to produce a design for the hall's internal wall as well.

"Over the weekend, Dan from 90 Degrees Artists will be conducting an art technique workshop for the project participants, and they'll have the opportunity to be involved with the production of the final designs," she said.

"We currently have a time capsule being crafted that we took submissions for towards the end of last year. When the wall designs are completed and the capsule is installed, we hope to celebrate with an official opening day.

"The intention is to create a multipurpose area for our region's youth, and we also hope to be open as a drop-in space on a trial basis in the coming months."
