Across Horsham, from May Park to the ANZAC bridge to the benches on Firebrace street. It's hats galore.
Vanessa O'Loughlin from Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN and spokesperson of the Mentoring Month committee said these are not just any hats, they represent the need for more people to step up and put on their mentoring cap.
"The hats represent the number of hats that we need filled by mentors, as well as the number of young people who need a positive mentor in their life," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
VCAL students from Trinity College decided to put their hands up for this community project.
Ms O'Laughlin said these five students were passionate about youth mentoring and saw the benefits of it.
These students spray painted the hats last Friday and went about putting them up on Monday afternoon.
Youth volunteer and Uniting's Better Futures Program coordinator Sarah Rowe said this is a stunt to boost awareness about the need for youth mentors.
"Everywhere you walk around town, we want people to keep hearing, seeing or reading about mentors. Hopefully, people will think 'that's awesome, I want to be a mentor'," she said.
The hats will be up around town for a week.
