Horsham Agricultural Society President Zack Currie said he was pleased with the number of entries in the show and the excellent display of quality in all events.
"We had over 50 dogs competing in the Wimmera Yard Dog Trial," he said.
"More than 140 stud merino and poll merino sheep from 17 studs from across Victoria and South Australia enter the Wimmera Autumn Merino Sheep Show and 70 fleeces entered in the Horsham Fleece Show, which was a brilliant effort by exhibitors."
Mr Currie said the show would not have been what it was without the efforts of the organisers.
IN OTHER EWES:
"The show's success was underpinned by Robert Harding who instigated the Autumn sheep show concept alongside Ouyen woolgrowers, Tamaleuca Merino Sheep Stud owners Kevin Crooke and Danni Wilson who were instrumental in compiling the schedule and the collaborative management of the show with the Horsham Ag Society," he said.
Local wool grower and co-organiser Warren Russell of Melrose Merino Stud took home several awards across both the sheep show and the fleece show.
"To have the support of Wimmera woolgrowers including Melrose, Glenpaen, Glendonald and Mt Yulong in addition to the wool growers who travelled from across Victoria and as far as the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia ... indicates the demand for showing is still very relevant in the industry," Mr Currie said.
An Orrie Cowie Merino ram from Yorke Peninsula won the Supreme Sheep of Show.
The event highlighted the dedication of sheep showing in local families.
Nhill's Harding family have been showing sheep for 100 years.
They showed their Glendonald Merino Sheep Stud.
Robert Harding has been showing sheep for five decades.
Entries received in the Horsham Fleece Show topped the annual ag show numbers. Fleece judge and Elders Horsham Wool Buyer, Amy Carpenter, was impressed with the wool's quality on show.
Junior sheep judging was introduced, with more than 12 young agriculturists entered the competition, many being students from Longerenong College.
The Yard Dog Trial saw strong competition with high entries in the maiden and novice categories.
Open winner Rob Macklin returned for the trial after competing in Lucindale the day before.
Competitors travelled from across the state for the trial, and for many in the crowd of about 400 across the day, it was their first time watching a trial.
Mr Currie said the execution of the event with COVID-19 safe measures was encouraging.
"No doubt the Horsham Agricultural Society can manage shows and other events into the future as we recover from the effects of the pandemic," he said.
