A group of 12 farming families purchased the business in 2014 after lying dormant since 2011.

The consortium of Apsley families sought to upgrade and revitalise the inn as a community hub, and have decided to part with the business as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Group chair Laurie Close said the owners are looking for an experienced and passionate team to carry the business into the future.

"It is time now for new custodians to take hold of the Border Inn; build on the successes to date and make their mark as publicans in this beautiful region," he said.

The group of families has engaged Warrnambool agents Wilsons to sell, with principle agent Mark Wilson confident the business has appeal.

"Currently only operating four days a week, with a restricted menu, a keen operator will note the clear opportunities to take this already successful enterprise to the next level," he said.

"There is scope to build on the hospitality packages, seasonal events and bed and breakfast offerings while being sure of loyal and enthusiastic local support."
