Wimmera Health Care Group director of Clinical Improvement, Risk and Innovation, Sally Taylor, said the health group completed 300 vaccinations during the Easter four day long weekend.

"We are now focusing on health care workers. We have been working with Edenhope, West Wimmera, and Rural North West Health Service in doing this," she said.

Ms Taylor acknowledged "quite a number of people" received side effects from the vaccine but said it was not unexpected.

"These are generally gone within 24 hours and you just need to have a lay down for a little while," she said.

"On the whole, people are keen, they are excited the vaccine is available in the area and are keen the have it as a step towards managing COVID in our community."

This comes after Horsham's first vaccine was administered on March 22, 2021.

In Nhill, West Wimmera Health Service has delivered 112 vaccines to aged care residents and 80 to frontline staff members.

West Wimmera chief executive Ritchie Dodds said the first phase of the region's vaccination program was delivered successfully.

"This is a significant step for us in the COVID-19 journey, with the vaccination program commenced at all of our aged care facilities," he said.

"I cannot overstate our gratitude for the pivotal role played by our staff as well as those from our Grampians health service partners for once again responding so positively and effectively in these unprecedented times."

The health group worked with Ballarat Health Service's vaccine hub team and the Wimmera Health Care Group's "sub-hub" team to provide vaccinations across West Wimmera.

Mobile clinics were set up at aged care facilities in Rainbow, Kaniva, Jeparit, Natimuk, Rupanyup, and Nhill.

Mr Dodds said it was important to stay vigilant in the fight against COVID-19.

"The coronavirus has not yet been defeated, and we've seen as recently as this week in Queensland how quickly it can reimpose itself on our lives," he said.

"The sooner we are all vaccinated the better".
