Playing the lead role is Year 8 student Penny Lopez O'Donnell who is very excited to get on stage and perform.
"Matilda is a musical I saw in Melbourne," she said.
"I fell in love with the characters and songs. I couldn't stop singing the songs.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"When I heard we were doing the production here, I had to audition."
Penny, who is just 13, said she is a bit nervous about the complexity of the production.
"It's a lot pressure, a lot of lines to learn and a lot of songs, but I'm quite excited." she said.
"I'm really happy I auditioned.
"We're going to have a blast."
Director of the production Emily Friedrichsen said the show was selected for it's cast size and strong messaging to children.
"We're always picking shows that will showcase as many students as possible," she said.
"We're so lucky at Horsham College to have so many talented kids.
"We try to find a show that has a message and Roald Dahl was a beautiful children's book writer ands his messages had so much more depth to them than just a happy ending."
Ms Friedrichsen said Matilda might have a dark underlying theme of child abuse, there are more hidden messages within the show.
"The story line centres on child abuse but also how to look after each other and how to address abuse," she said.
"Matilda finds solace in her books as well. It's a message to children that knowledge is power."
The school production is more than just the 30 students on stage and works throughout the school for students to gain experience beyond assessments.
The Year 11 and 12 textile classes are involved in costume design inline with their sustainability course.
"it's about putting sustainability into action," Ms Friedrichsen said.
The Year 8 theatre studies class will be involved with behind the scenes and costume design.
"This is so they are not just doing an assessment, "Ms Friedrichsen said.
"They are learning and putting things into action. They can see why things are planned out the way they are and see it all take shape."
Matilda the Musical is coming to Horsham Town Hall August 19 to August 21.
Tickets will be available late June.
