A unanimous decision was made to sell the land, which neighbours the Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange.

Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Robyn Gulline said she wants to see a strategic plan for the lands around the livestock exchange site.

"There is a lot of opportunity out there that we could capitalise on if we worked on a strategic plan," she said.

Another motion which would explore future use of two additional lots passed with opposition from Cr Di Bell and Cr Ian Ross.

Both councilors wished to see the two lots of land set aside for use by the Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange.

Cr Ian Ross raised a successful amendment to the motion which would see co-ordination with the Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange for any future development of the land nearby.

This comes after the council received six community submissions opposing the land sale at a council briefing on April 7, 2021.

The submissions, in the form of letters, expressed community members concerns with the sale of the land, citing a lack of consultation and a need to retain the area for livestock exchange use.

Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange chair David Grimble submitted one of the letters to the council and opposed the proposal to sell the two lots ear-marked by the council.

"The decision to purchase abundant land primarily to relocate and develop a regional sale yards complex displayed great foresight," he said.

"Over the past twenty years many things have changed. The next twenty years the same will ring true.

"Council could never fund the relocation of its current facility so it is imperative that the exchange is never restricted or landlocked to its detriment."
