Council was presented with a development plan for the municipal industrial land at its April council meeting
The 83.3ha of council-owned land is located at the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal in Dooen.
The plan included a development overview, including a subdivision and internal road construction.
Councillors were pleased to provide the opportunity to move on industrial land.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Supporters included Councillor Ian Ross, who said industrial land was an asset to the community.
"It's an asset we've got that needs help developing, this decision will help promote it to the community," he said.
"Industrial land is needed all the time, so we need to grab the opportunity when it arrives.
"If you haven't got the land ready to go, you've missed the boat."
Cr Ross said he would like to see Horsham work with big businesses like neighbouring municipalities Stawell and Ararat were able to.
Councillors Les Power, David Bowe and Mayor Robyn Gulline also supported the development plan.
Cr Gulline said the demand for industrial land was increasing.
"It's really important we get those plots ready for sale, so they can be sold on to our investors as soon as practicable," she said.
"Once they are sold, the money can be reinvested to develop the next land for sale."
There was some debate over the name of the Dooen Industrial Estate. The recommendation for council was "Wimmera Enhanced Agriculture and Logistics Hub."
Councillor Di Bell made a motion that the name be shortened and made more punchy with a good acronym.
Cr Bell suggested "Wimmera Agriculture and Logistics Hub" or WAL for short.
Cr Power said a catchy name would help attract people to the site.
"People can hear it and it catches on," he said.
"People come to Horsham and buy land and start a business out there."
