The Burras led for most of the match and held a 22-point lead at three quarter time, before the Giants pinched the victory in the dying minutes.
There was a bit of confusion at the end, as a scoreboard malfunction meant players weren't sure who won.
Giants' coach Luke Mahony said it was a "very hard fought" game.
"Minyip-Murtoa certainly stood up for three quarters and we were lucky enough to come home in the end," Mahony said.
"They really put it to us in the first quarter and I guess rattled us early.
"But we were slowly able to peg things back and sorta get on top and use our running game towards the end."
