The 2021-22 draft budget was approved for public consultation at a council meeting on Wednesday, May 5.

Hindmarsh mayor Ron Ismay said he was looking forward to hearing the community's feedback on the package.

"I think the shire is in a great financial position and we have some great projects on the go," he said.

"We have grants all over the place, some new grants that are not official yet but will be announced shortly."

Alongside the draft budget, the council brought forward a revenue rating plan that would see a 1.5 per cent increase in line with Essential Services Commission recommendations.

The draft budget also included a 10 per cent decrease to the farming and commercial rating differentials down to 90 per cent and a 50 per cent decrease to recreational properties from 75 to 50 per cent.

Vacant property rating differentials would be increased by 100 per cent in an effort from the council to entice the development of vacant land.

The draft budget also outlined a capital works expenditure of $14.09 million - with funding put towards projects such as the Albacutya Bridge, Davis Park redevelopment, and Nhill Library upgrade.

Councillors voted unanimously to move the draft budget into public consultation from May 10 to June 4, 2021.
