At Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday, the Roos got over Ararat by 24-points in somewhat of an arm wrestle.
Despite an end margin of 24-points, the Rats were in the contest all day, thanks to some accurate goalkicking from their forwards.
With a 21-point lead going into the fourth quarter, it was all to play for; however, Dimboola's class shone through and showed just why they sit equal-first on the ladder.
Dimboola coach Justin Beugelaar was extremely pleased with the way his side performed in their first home game of the season.
"Just happy to be back on our home deck with our supporters and get the win in the end," Beugelaar said.
"We played our brand of footy and kept the ball off them at times.
"They're a really good side, they're a quick ball movement side, a young side, at times they tried to cut us open and we just brought it back onto our terms which is contested footy."
Beugelaar named Matt Rosier and Jayden Lehmann as two of his side's best performers for the day.
"I think Matty rosier in the middle was an absolute machine as per usual, the size of him and the amount of ball that he wins is a credit to him," he said.
"I think our best on for me was probably Jayden Lehmann in the ruck, just the way he competed all day against blokes bigger than him and halved the contest and gave our blokes first use, I think he was a standout for me."

The Roos came out of the match weary but relatively injury-free, with Beugelaar the only player nursing an injury concern.
"I'll just assess myself during the week and we'll go from there," Beugelaar said.
Over in Stawell, the Warriors produced one of the upsets of the season, accounting for the high-flying Southern Mallee Giants by two points in an absolute thriller.
The Giants, who would have been full of confidence after beating the reigning premiers last week, will be left to rue their kicking in front of goal.
The side kicked 7.15 in the end, and no doubt will want to work on that heading into next week.
However, nothing should be taken away from the Warriors, who fought hard all day and took a two-point lead into the final quarter.
WFNL leading-goalkicker Cody Driscoll continued his purple patch for the Warriors, kicking four goals while Jackson Dark was his side's best.
For the Giants, Connor McCredden kept his side in it with five majors, while Sam White was named best.
The stage is now set for Stawell to host Dimboola next week in a battle that will leave the victor in outright first on the ladder.
In the round's other matches, Horsham Demons dismantled Warrack by 44-points at ANZAC Park.
Warrack kicked four straight in the first quarter to snatch an early 7-point lead before the Demons kicked into gear, kicking six goals to Warrack's two in the second.
The Demons kicked four goals to the Eagles two in each of the remaining quarters, to take home a much-needed victory.
The Eagles, while disheartened at having no wins for the season, will take confidence from a competitive showing against a tough side.
In the final match, the Horsham Saints flexed their muscle in a comfortable 75- point win over Nhill.
The win keeps the Saints in reach of the top four and gives them momentum heading into their all-important clash with Minyip-Murtoa next week.
Gage Wright was a standout for the Saints, while Nathan Alexander fought hard all day for the Tigers.
